Now if we're going to talk southern food, Succotash is TOP TIER. Ever time someone comes in town, I bring them here for brunch. The chicken and waffles MELT in your mouth and their belle's punch is the perfect mix of boozy and sweet. Now, their happy hour is also great. Everyday from 4:30-8, meaning people who get off later in the evening can ACTUALLY get to happy hour.

Yum yum yum! The hush puppies with pimento cheese is a must try along with the collard greens with kimchi! The chicken had just the right amount of balance of gochujang coating the fried chicken. The seasonal watermelon salad with peanuts was refreshing and the flash fried kale with ginger was delicious. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions about the food and local bourbon selection Huge selection of bourbons and whiskey to sample. Perfect date night spot with friends or your partner.

We visited Succotash at an off hour between main lunch and dinner services on a visit to DC from the Boston area. The menu looked great online, so we gave this a chance. I am SO glad we did - it was an amazing dining experience, and I wish there was a Succotash in the New England area so we could frequent it more. The atmosphere is great - it's an old bank location that has been converted into a wonderful dining area, with comfortable curved booth seating along the walls that we were able to use. Our server Patricia was amazing, knowledgable, and friendly, as well, and made us feel super comfortable and cared for all throughout the meal, as did the manager who checked in on us and some of the runners, who were fast and efficient. We started with cocktails that were both amazing - I had the clarified milk punch, which may have been the best cocktail I've ever had, and my wife got their pineapple-inspired margarita, which she also loved. I later had their mint julep which was described to me as an "adult sno-cone", an apt description. I loved it, but it was a standard fare julep overall, and I'm still thinking about the milk punch after it all. So good. We fretted over the menu for a bit because there were so many amazing soul/southern food options, but then we noticed the massive "Taste the South" tasting menu they offered, and after confirming with our waitress that, yes, in fact you DO get everything listed for just $60 a person (11 total items, no subs), we decided to go with it. I CANNOT recommend that option more - for $60 per person, we basically got the majority of their entire menu, and in very healthy amounts, all coming out in separate courses. We got two of their fried tomato deviled eggs (these were fine, but probably the least impressive part of the meal) and two slices of their incredible cornbread cakes to start. This was followed by a fried green tomato salad that was quite large and very tasty, along with two of their smoked wings, a perfect portion given how much food we still had to come. As part of the tasting menu, we were able to choose two options from their sizeable sides menu, and we went with the grits/sausage gravy and smashed potatoes, both of which were fantastic. The shrimp and grits came next, which I loved, but my wife was iffy about, and then the mains, which were slices of medium rare rib eye with an extremely savory wine reduction sauce and two of their chicken and waffles offerings. All fantastic. We were honestly getting super full at this point and knew we'd have to be taking a lot of the final pieces back to the hotel at this point, but then dessert came out, with two small chocolate pecan pie tarts, two hummingbird cake truffles that lasted sort of like frosted gingerbread cookie dough bites, and this awesome orangey cream to go with it all. Beyond the food being delicious, it came out quickly but perfectly paced - we never felt rushed, nor did our table get filled with empty dishes or too many servings to handle at once. Our utensils and plates were changed out between most servings as well - great attention to detail here. To say they're undercharging for this amount and variety of food is an understatement (please don't raise your prices, Succotash!). I wish more restaurants had a tasting flight like this so you could taste a lot of a single menu at once, especially when it's a restaurant you can't visit often. Cocktails were also incredibly well priced - that milk punch I keep raving about was only $14.50 and the margarita was $16. We had drinks at our hotel bar later that same night that were basic, no frill bar cocktails and which were in the $20 range. The hotel drinks weren't remotely comparable to the skilled drinks at Succotash, in price or skill/flavor. This place is special, and it definitely feels like the staff are well aware of this, and care a lot for how this restaurant works and runs. Again, we were there at an off hour (there were maybe six other tables with customers), so some of those finer details might not be there at a busier time, but I'd be surprised that it would matter much given how well we were treated and fed. Thank you so much, Succotash! We hope that Boston area franchise is coming soon :)

This was my first time visiting Succotash and I went for brunch. For brunch we had the following: Bacon 10/10 Shrimp and grits 10/10 Deviled eggs (get the bacon ones) 8/10 French toast 10/10 The staff is amazing shoutout to Tre who was my server for the day. The ambiance is nice, we sat on the first level and the next time we go I would like to set on the top level. What makes this place unique is that it used to a be a bank. Would def be back again.

What a treat to come to this restaurant that has an updated flare for southern food. Not only were the food and drinks beautifully presented and refreshing, but our server (Phyllis) and all the staff were so cordial and attentive. My son and I ordered the "Southern Taste" which is like a tasting menu for two, but they were fairly generous portions! And well priced! We also each got a non-alcoholic drink. So refreshing! Each dish was so tastefully done (pun intended! Lol) and was very flavorful. While it is hard to choose, our favorite dish in the tasting menu was the Citrus Blue Cheese and Spicy Peanut salad. It was very fresh and the citrus was so sweet. My son said it was the best salad he'd ever had. The Shrimp and Grits were accompanied by cheese crisps, which added a special touch. We also loved the Chicken and Waffles, Fried Green Tomato and Deviled eggs. And to top off the meal, the sticky buns really hit the spot. Two last tidbits of information: 1) the building and its architecture are rich in history. It used to be a real bank back in the 1920s and you can see the room that used to be the bank vault! It has been converted to a dining nook. So cool! And the bank later became a nightclub, called "The Bank". I used to go to that club way back in the 80s! (Now I'm really dating myself!) 2) this restaurant does have separate entrance for wheelchair bound people. And their is a separate bathroom stall for disabled people. (The bathrooms are beautiful too.)

A great time for lunch is 1pm! This was my first time here and I will make plans to return. The hostess was trying to seat the last of the lunch rushers with reservations and our buddy lunch reservation for two was going to be delayed for 10 minutes. Well, It did not even take that long before we were seated. It was lively but not too noisy for a lunch crowd but by the time we were finished; you could tell how more relaxed and quiet the restaurant had become. The food lived up to many of the posts here in YELP!

Tuesday 4/30/2024 Was out with the family in DC to meet a friend and my mom decided that this spot would be the best for dinner. Although it was pretty busy, we were still able to be seated in less than 10 minutes without a reservation. Our waitress provided our table with good service as she was friendly and helpful. We got a lot of items for the table but the items I ended up trying were the smoked chicken wings $13.50, cornbread cakes $8.25, pimento cheese hush puppies $9.25, bacon jam deviled eggs $7, pimento burger $19.50, chicken & waffles (main/full) $28, and the hummingbird cake $13.50. - The smoked chicken wings were pretty good. - The cornbread cakes were okay on their own but were significantly better when paired with the fruit jam and butter dip. - I'm not a huge enjoyer of them but the bacon jam deviled eggs were alright. - The pimento burger and fries were alright but I expected the burger to be a lot better. - The chicken and waffles were GREAT: The waffle was decent and the fried chicken was ON POINT. The texture was crispy (you can hear the crunch with every bite) and it was juicy. * my only criticism is that you should get a full waffle when getting the main version of the dish instead of just the extra 2 pieces of chicken (starter $14.50: half waffle & 2 chicken pieces AND full $28: half waffle & 4 chicken pieces) - first time ever trying hummingbird cake and it was solid but carrot cake is still my favorite. Overall, succotash was a pleasant surprise with some good food that I would come back for and recommend (make sure y'all get the fried chicken and smoked wings).

I got nothing short of a five-star review for Succotash. We came in after the Wizards game for a late dinner and the vibe of this place is elite. I love the ambiance and the dining setting. Our server was in the top 3 favorite things about this place. The fried green tomatoes as our appetizer was TOP TIER. Absolutely delicious!! Definitely would recommend this place a thousand times over and it's a must-go to when in the area!
